275 Birds of a Feather
send this to a friendThe 2000-year-old tradition of making fine pottery persists among the Pueblo Indians of the American Southwest to this day. Potters still use primarily local clays and pigments gathered from their immediate area in a time consuming and laborious process. For the Indians, this is a ritual and religious experience and craftsmen adhere to methods passed on from one generation to the next. Pots are fired at low temperatures in primitive kilns using bark, dung and manure as fuel. Pot designs include rainbow bands, birds, deer, and geometric motifs common to the region. Sabaku's "Birds of a Feather" design celebrates some of the motifs from the Pueblos.
