239 Otomi
send this to a friendOtomi women claim that the colorful designs they embroider originated from prehistoric wall paintings located in the Tenango region of Hidalgo, Mexico. These ancient design motifs are taken to their aesthetic limit as fanciful plants and animals are arrayed on an endless variety of textiles. This type of indigenous folk-art has been able to persist to the present day because it imbues cloth with a unique vibrancy and energy. This has placed a consistent demand on Otomi artists for their work and is the inspiration for our translation of these embroidery designs into the silk-screening process.
