231 Tacuate
send this to a friendThis design was inspired by the embroidered motifs found on the traditional men's and women's clothing of the indigenous Tacuates in Oaxaca, Mexico. Their culture consists of a mixture of Catholicism and Aztec religion, resulting in unique permutations in the figuration of religion in art and, also, traditional and ceremonial attire. On Tacuate ceremonial clothing, brightly embroidered colors resonate with the old Aztec traditions, whereas the basic cut and style of dress is European in origin. The stylized representations of animals and bib-like placement of our print are derived from designs on Tacaute shirts, the beauty of which we wanted share by translating them into the silk-screening process.
