About The Artist
Nancy Lenches Alegret uses colorful cotton apparel as the canvas for her screen printed artwork. She is the artist behind Sabaku Artwear.
A native of Tucson, Arizona, Nancy still lives and works there. She started her studies in art at an early age working in ceramics and weaving and continued working toward a degree in fine arts at the University of Arizona where she studied painting, sculpture and art history. Nancy is self taught in the art of printmaking and production screen printing.
Having grown up in Tucson, Nancy’s work reflects her love for the plants and animals of the surrounding Sonoran Desert, the vibrant folkart of Mexico and Latin America and the patterns in Native American craft. By creating wearable art, she hopes to not only pay homage to these inspirations, but to share an understanding of the inhabitants and traditions of the desert Southwest.
